Abøn’s passion lies in amplifying the quiet voices in our world- the wisdom of the trees, the tiny ants that know something more about collaboration, the mysterious world of our dreams and the ancient tales of our ancestors.

Danish-Canadian singer, songwriter, producer and composer, Abøn began her journey first as a ballet dancer, then scientist, and finally grounded herself in music. Abøn grew up in the Albertan prairies, and was constantly engaged in one of her newly discovered interests; from hockey to astronomy, while music was a constant throughout.

She studied classical piano and cello as a young girl, and went on to teach herself guitar, bass and drums which she later played in her first bands. She formed a duo with her younger sister where vocal harmony took her heart, and in 2013, she and two friends formed “The Willows”, a Canadian vocal jazz trio. As composer and arranger for the group, she tapped into a talent for writing close harmonies and interweaving melodies. The Willows released two albums, toured internationally, and their music is featured in several American Hallmark films.

After many adventurous years with The Willows, her musical curiosity continued to grow and she began to explore a new world of sound. And so came the genesis of Abøn.

Abøn’s artistic beginnings were explored first during her times as an artist in residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts where she wrote much of her early pieces. She was later invited as a resident artist at the National Music Centre in Canada and to a songwriters competition in the Netherlands. She was accepted to pursue graduate studies at Berklee College of Music and received her Masters in Contemporary Music Production and Performance in 2020.  In the field of songwriting, Lauren has written music on the side for K-Pop and Country artists and is currently collaborating with artists in Denmark, Canada and Spain.

Abøn’s compositions are featured in the Danish film starring Mille Dinesen and Ulrich Thomsen, “Tag Min Hånd”, and she is featured as an actress and singer in the Danish TV series “Carmen Curlers”.

Abøn has recorded keyboard and vocals with the Beach Boys in California, done arrangements, and vocal recording for Kevin Hearn, from the respected Canadian band, the Barenaked Ladies. Her vocals are featured on Justin Nozuka’s album “Ulysees”. Abøn is also featured on David Clayton Thomas’s recent album, “Canadiana” from Blood Sweat and Tears, among others. She has collaborated on a project with the SETI Institute sending music to the moon on the Peregrine Mission in 2022, and her recent single “Orion” is featured in the Telus World of Science Zeidler Planetarium show, and the Calgary Spark Science Center planetarium show (2023).

Abøn holds a BFA in Dance Performance from Ryerson University, and a Masters in Music from Berklee College of Music. She is a certified sound therapist, and breathwork facilitator, and produces music for these various healing modalities, through her company Abøn Alchemy.

The mixture of Abøn’s mesmerizing vocals with electronic textures is reminiscent of artists such as Juliana Barwick, Aurora and Lana Del Rey. Her lush and soothing string arrangements, vocal layers and harmonious movement brings a classical canvas to her pop-infused melodies, and her vocal quality has been described as peaceful and comforting while bringing a sense of vulnerability and honesty to her listeners. Her music evokes imagination and curiosity, bringing her listeners to a world of wonder and fantasy, inspiring a connection to the forests and a gaze beyond the stars.
